It's important to remember that MySpace is NOT the Devil. There are so many
great things to be gained by participating in an online community, such as MySpace,
that people would do well to remember that there is good and bad in most anything.
The old saying that "guns don't kill people, people kill people" applies very well
to the dangers of MySpace. Most everything has the potential of being used
for bad, and there can be no doubt that online communities present a favorable environment
for online predators. However, armed with information and a few
internet safety tools, parents and children can both take advantage of the
many benefits of MySpace.

Friends for the Friendless |
 MySpace encourages members to set up personal profiles that fit
their unique personalities so that they may be linked together through networks
of friends. Members can view each others' profiles, contact old friends and classmates
and perhaps meet a few new people. The service allows you the chance to share photos,
e-mail friends, search for classmates or blog.
Never before in the history of mankind has it been easier to reach out to people
all over the world. Online communities like MySpace, make meeting new friends
with similar interests incredibly easy. Kids who in the past may have never
made friends with peers in their town or local school are suddenly finding a world
of friends that they can relate to. However, beware that this ease of communication
is also where the dangers of MySpace come from.

A Place to Share Your Interests |
 One of the coolest places on MySpace are the discussion "Groups."
You might be the only person in your little town that has an interest in Corvettes,
but on MySpace you will literally find thousands of people all over the world with
the same interest.
What a great place to share tips, ideas and stories about the things you find most
interesting. If you have a question about your hobby, you can easily find
the answer through your network of members with similar interests.

After being strung along by the phony MySpace boyfriend "Josh Evans", a young girl by the name of Megan Meier killed herself after receiving a series of hateful messages. Unbelievably, PARENTS created this phony account to get Megan to feel like she was liked by a boy and let everyone know this was a phony MySpace profile and have everyone laugh at her.
